There’s no stopping Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Despicable Me 2, which once again topped the national home video sales charts for the week ending Jan. 12 – the animated sequel’s fifth consecutive week as the country’s top-selling DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
The film remains atop both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc combined sales, as well as Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
Another Universal Studios title, Fast & Furious 6, slipped to No. 5 on First Alert after four weeks at No. 2.

Despicable Me 2’s five straight No. 1 finishes is the best performance for a title since the spring of 2010, when Avatar was No. 1 for four weeks and slipped to No. 2 in the fifth. A year later, Rio spent four weeks at No. 1 before dropping to No. 3 its fifth week in stores.
Two new releases scored well their first week in stores: Lionsgate’s Duck Dynasty Season 4 bowed at No. 2 on the overall sales chart, while 20th Century Fox’s Runner Runner – a crime drama with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake that grossed a disappointing $19.3 million in theaters – debuted at No. 3.
On the Blu-ray Disc sales chart, Runner Runner bowed at No. 2, while Duck Dynasty Season 4 failed to crack the top 20 – not surprising, given that only 5% of its total unit sales came from the high-definition format.
Runner Runner, in comparison, generated 41% of its total unit sales from Blu-ray Disc.

On Home Media Magazine’s rental chart for the week, both Despicable Me 2 and Fast & Furious 6 soared to the top now that their 28-day holdback from rental outlets Netflix and Redbox is over. Fast & Furious 6 debuted at No. 1, while Despicable Me 2 bowed at No. 2.
The previous week’s top rental, 20th Century Fox’s The Wolverine, slipped to No. 3.
