A new trailer for Million Dollar Arm has hit the web, revealing Jon Hamm‘s mission to discover the next great baseball star.
“I’m J.B. Bernstein — I’m a sports agent,” Hamm introduces in a voiceover. “Right now, I’m on the verge of a huge break.” But Hamm’s Mad Men-like confidence is quickly shattered as his athlete is shown signing a contract with someone else.

Undeterred, Hamm calls on Bill Paxton and Alan Arkin to recruit yet-untapped baseball potential. “It’s called ‘Million Dollar Arm’ — we find the first Major League Baseball player from India,” he explains of organizing open calls for cricket players as pitchers. Among them, Life of Pi‘s Suraj Sharma becomes a promising standout.
Set to The Script’s hit “Hall of Fame” with will.i.am, the finalists are then shown learning how to play America’s pastime for the first time, and also becoming Hamm’s “alternative family thing,” as his neighbor Lake Bell calls it.
Million Dollar Arm is produced by Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray of Mayhem Pictures with Joe Roth, Palek Patel, Kevin Halloran, Bill Simmons and Connor Schell executive producing. The sports drama, based on a true story, opens in theaters May 16, 2014.
