LONDON – U.K. film and TV production banner Ecosse Films, whose output includes TV shows like Mistresses and movies such as Mrs. Brown, has inked a three-year first-look deal with Shine International to rep its TV sales and distribution.
The partnership will see Shine International, part of Elisabeth Murdoch‘s Shine Group, hawk finished tape and format rights for Ecosse Films’ new television output effective Jan. 1, 2014.
The deal was brokered by Ecosse Films founder and managing director Douglas Rae with Shine International CEO Nadine Nohr and senior vp acquisitions Georgia Brown.
Rae said: “Shine is a great choice for Ecosse. Elizabeth Murdoch has established a very dynamic, entrepreneurial and inspiring company, and Shine International really understands our ambition to grow Ecosse into a truly international company.”
Rae will be hoping the company expands its international reach beyond existing deals, which include Ecosse producing ABC’s Mistresses, based on the BBC hit.
Nohr described Ecosse as a home to “exceptional storytellers with an amazing track record and reputation for creating high-end distinctive and internationally appealing drama.”
Ecosse Films has produced more than 300 hours of network television for international broadcasters, including three seasons of Mistresses for BBC One, whose U.S. remake was recently renewed for a second season by ABC, this year’s Life of Crime for U.K. commercial network ITV and the long-running Monarch of the Glen (also BBC One).
Upcoming productions include Fleming for Sky Atlantic HD, starring Dominic Cooper as the James Bond creator Ian Fleming, and period drama Great Fire of London for ITV.
Alongside its television slate, Ecosse Films also makes movies with credits including Mrs. Brown, Becoming Jane, Charlotte Gray, The Water Horse and Nowhere Boy.
Shine International distributes more than 3,700 hours of broadcast content annually on behalf of Shine Group and third-party producers.
Future Ecosse Films television content will next year join a catalog that includes Kudos’ Broadchurch, which has traveled to more than 100 territories globally and is currently being adapted in the U.S. for Fox with Shine America.
