Amazon Prime now is the exclusive online subscription streaming home for Veronica Mars, making the complete series of the Warner Bros. show available to Prime members today.
The deal will allow fans and those curious about the Kristen Bell starrer who missed it during its three-year TV run to catch up ahead of the March 14 release of the Veronica Mars movie.
“The Veronica Mars series has been popular on DVD and Amazon Instant Video for years, so we know how much Amazon customers love this iconic television show,” said Brad Beale, Amazon’s director of digital video content acquisition in a statement. “We are excited to become the exclusive subscription streaming home for Veronica Mars and to be able to offer the entire TV series to Prime members to enjoy at no additional charge. With the movie coming on March 14, both die-hard fans and new viewers can easily catch up on this great show.”
Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution president Ken Werner added: “We are thrilled to have Prime Instant Video as a digital distribution outlet for the Veronica Mars TV series. Digital distribution platforms such as Amazon’s and licensing deals such as this allow the consumer great opportunities, whether they’re die-hard fans who just can’t get enough or a new consumer turned fan who has discovered a fabulous show with dozens of new episodes.”
The series follows a high-school student (Bell) who moonlights as a private investigator under the tutelage of her detective father. The movie was made possible by a Kickstarter campaign launched by Bell and screenwriter Rob Thomas.
Amazon’s deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution is the latest exclusive pact inked by the streaming service, which also is the sole online subscription home for PBS’ Downton Abbey, CBS’ Under the Dome and upcoming series Extant and the FX hit Justified.
Veronica Mars gives Amazon another popular show to add to its arsenal of exclusive content as it competes with rival streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.
