STOCKTON –

Kentfield at March Lane in Stockton was shut down for hours Saturday as police and protestors clashed.

Protestors said they are angry about police brutality in the City. And the fact that the protests happen regularly doesn’t make it any less contentious.

Police say one man interfered and obstructed their officers as they tried to push angry protestors blocking March Lane back onto side streets.

“The City is asking for more money from the people, they’re asking for a 9% sales tax increase to fund a hundred new police officers. Yet we can plainly see there’s well over 60 police officer that are there standing,” said Christina Arechiga.

Officers claim it the protest was far from peaceful, that eggs and two large chunks of concrete were thrown at them from the crowd.

In fact, the protest took a lot of forms, including the burning of an America flag.

Other protestors held up signs recalling James Rivera, a 16-year-old killed by Stockton Police officers when they say he was backing a minivan toward them in 2010.

The irony is, as journalist covering this event, the only place we actually feel secure is behind the police line. No less than three times did someone threaten to take our camera when we crossed the line to talk with protesters.
