Are you ready for Toymageddon?
Fox is developing a high-concept idea that hails from Tariq Merhab, a manager at production and management firm Anonymous Content, which is behind HBO’s new hit crime series True Detective.
Justin Lin, the director behind the recent mega-grossing Fast and Furious movies, will produce Toymageddon, a four quadrant, live-action family adventure movie in the vein of Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters. The lid on the plot details is being kept tightly shut but it is known to center around a toy factory that runs amok.
Also producing are Anonymous’s Michael Sugar, Bard Dorros and Merhab, as well as Troy Craig Poon of Perfect Storm Entertainment, the shingle run by Lin.
A writer will be hired to tackle the script shortly. The project is in the early development stages and there is a chance it could turn into a Lin-directing vehicle, depending on the outcome of the script.
Lin has left the Furious franchise but remains as busy as ever. He is attached to direct a new Jeremy Renner Bourne movie and last week picked up the narrative rights to the Sundance documentary The Battered Bastards of Baseball, which he will produce with Todd Field directing.
Lin is repped by CAA, Cinetic Media and Sloss Eckhouse.
