Three Idols were nominated for Grammys this year — Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia and Mandisa — but only one is taking home a trophy. Season five American Idol alum Mandisa won her first Grammy for her album Overcomer in the category of Best Contemporary Christian Music.
The title song, which has had long runs at No. 1 on three Billboard Christian charts, won in the category of Best Contemporary Christian Music Song for songwriters David Garcia, Ben Glover and Christopher Stevens. Mandisa credits Robin Roberts of Good Morning America as being the inspiration for the song’s lyrics.
Mandisa has had three previous Grammy nominations, in 2008, 2010 and 2012 for her first three studio albums, True Beauty, Freedom and What If We Were Real.
