SACRAMENTO-
One day after a court ruling requiring him to face deposition in a suit against the city he represents, Councilman McCarty’s staff told FOX40 Wednesday he still hasn’t been contacted about scheduling.
It is one of the latest twists in the ever-evolving Kings arena saga.
Members of Sacramento Taxpayers Opposed to Pork, or STOP, believe that Kevin McCarty may have some knowledge of a back-door deal with investors that facilitated the council’s passage of the term sheet for the planned arena.
STOP is the group also challenging the city’s subsidy of that proposed venue with a petition drive that could send the plan to the polls.
Via a written statement, McCarty is now speaking out about the fact that he will be deposed.
That statement reads:
“On the city council I have consistently asked tough questions about the public financing of the arena. I certainly have no problem answering tough questions during these legal proceedings. The city treasurer has answered my questions: the public will pay out $22 million per year for 35 years and will get back $2.7 million per year during those same years.”
Sacramento’s economic development director Jim Rinehart is also in the sights of this effort to gather intel through deposition.
The plaintiffs are looking for any communications he may have made or documents dealing with term sheet items.
Sacramento’s attorney James Sanchez says the city respectfully disagrees with Judge Balonon’s decision to grant these depositions.
