Bill O’Reilly thinks Stephen Colbert has his work cut out for him when he takes over for David Letterman in 2015.
The Fox News host, who recently called Colbert “a deceiver,” said on Wednesday’s The View that the comedian will have trouble shedding his faux-conservative persona for CBS and beating his broadcast competitors Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel.

“In order for Colbert to succeed, he’s got to be better than [Fallon and Kimmel]. His show’s got to be better,” O’Reilly explained on The View. “That’s going to be very, very tough because Kimmel and Fallon are good. I’ve been on both of their programs; I’ve seen what they do, they’re good. So, Colbert’s going to have to come out of his little persona, where he snipes and he makes these little, snarky remarks and he’s got to be broader. That’s not going to be easy for him to do.”
O’Reilly added that Colbert’s already “alienated 40 percent of the country” by poking fun at conservatives through his Comedy Central character.
But he later allowed that right-wing viewers might tune in to Colbert out of curiosity.
