A car crashed into a power pole in the Carmichael area Thursday night, knocking out power for tens of thousands of SMUD customers.

The CHP first reported the crash at about 9:21 p.m. along Kiva Drive near the corner of Madison Avenue and Garfield Avenue. There was no immediate report of injuries.

Traffic signals throughout the area were reportedly knocked out. The CHP reported power lines across Garfield somewhere between Marmith Avenue and Kiva Drive.

SMUD estimated that power would be restored by 11:30 p.m.
