SACRAMENTO-

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department says the man killed Sunday morning by deputies was holding replica firearms.

Investigators were already in the Antelope area to check out reports of shots fired when they came across 41-year-old Ryan Shannon walking along Don Julio Boulevard.

Deputies say Shannon pointed the fake handgun, which was originally thought to be real, their way.

Shannon’s firearms were later discovered to be fake, for “recreational use.”

Detectives said Monday that they believe Shannon had planned to die at the hands of deputies.
