For many, Spider-Man is a relatively low-impact superhero. While Superman, Iron Man and the Avengers regularly face off against threats to humanity, Spider-Man tends to deal with threats to New York City. With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 nearing release, however, the character is stepping up and trying to save the world.
As part of a promotional partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature’s Earth Hour, Spider-Man has been named as the event’s “first Superhero Ambassador.” The announcement was made today to accompany the launch of Earth Hour Blue, a crowdsourcing platform to support environmental projects.

Offering some real-world support to the fictional superhero, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx — all of whom appear in this summer’s follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man — are joining Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb in promoting the March 29 event.
“I’m proud Spider-Man is the first Superhero ambassador for Earth Hour because he shows we can all be superheroes when we realize the power we all have,” Garfield said in a statement, a message echoed by Webb’s comment: “Earth Hour is a movement full of superheroes — people harnessing the power of the crowd to inspire change for the good of the planet. Imagine the possibilities when we come together and do more.”
