Down again from 2013, American Idol still locked a Thursday victory for Fox. Night two of the competition’s season-13 premiere averaged a 3.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 13.4 million viewers. That’s a 30 percent drop in the targeted demo from the comparable episode last January and a 17 percent drop from Wednesday’s opener.
Fox and the rest of the Big Four had smaller competition for the night with the typically dominant Thursday network, CBS, airing encores. Still, the net averaged a 1.5 rating with adults 18-49 and 7.2 million viewers.

The Taste (0.9 adults) took a four-tenths of a point hit on ABC — though its lead-out, a Shark Tank encore (1.2 adults), doubled the latest time slot performance from The Assets before it was axed. ABC averaged a 1.0 rating with adults 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers.
Over on NBC, Community (1.1 adults) and Parks and Recreation (1.2 adults) were both down three-tenths of a point from last Thursday. Sean Saves the World (0.8 adults) dropped two-tenths of a point, while The Michael J. Fox Show tumbled four-tenths of a point for a new series low of just a 0.6 rating in the key demo. At 10 p.m., Parenthood (1.2 adults) was off just a tenth from last week. NBC averaged a 1.0 rating with adults 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers for the night.
The Critics’ Choice Awards returned to The CW with an average 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.95 million viewers. That’s two-tenths of a point down in the key demo from 2013 — but a slight improvement in total viewers.
