True Blood closed season six with two major deaths and a time jump, but the events of the finale didn’t exactly boost ratings.
HBO’s racy vampire drama averaged 4.1 million total viewers Sunday night at 9 p.m., a slight improvement from the penultimate episode but a drop from the season-six premiere in June. (If the 11 p.m. encore is counted, True Blood drew more than 5 million viewers on the night.)
Compared to the season-five finale last August, True Blood — wrapping up after 10 episodes instead of the usual 12 — was down nearly 1 million viewers.

There were drastic changes behind the scenes when executive producer Brian Buckner took over showrunning duties from Mark Hudis, who himself had taken over from creator Alan Ball, in the middle of season six.
HBO renewed the long-running vampire drama after the fifth episode of the season, with season seven slated for 2014.
