A new chapter in Ryan Hardy’s quest on The Following has begun.
The Hollywood Reporter exclusively previews a sneak peek of the second half of the two-hour premiere, airing Jan. 27 at 9 p.m., with key players Kevin Williamson and Marcos Siega offering a behind-the-scenes look.
The sophomore season opener lured Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon), no longer doing the FBI thing, back into the Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) madness after a New York City subway attack by a group of masked Carroll followers killed several people and left a lone survivor, Lily (Connie Nielsen). Where was Carroll? Living a modest life in the woods.
As the preview for the next episode, titled “For Joe,” teases, Carroll is living with “a groupie” (Carrie Preston) whose daughter, Mandy, he takes under his wing. “What it like to kill someone?” Mandy asks. Is she a follower in the making?
Meanwhile, Ryan starts to bond with Lily — and of course, anyone who gets close starts to feel the wrath of Carroll’s minions, as illustrated in a threatening phone call made by one of (or rather two of) Carroll’s followers, Luke and Mark (Sam Underwood). How will Ryan react when he learns the truth about Luke and Mark?
