Danny Trejo is heading back to FX.
The actor, who has recurred on the cable network’s Sons of Anarchy, has booked a series-regular role on Saint George, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
George Lopez‘s 10/90 comedy centers on the chaotic life of a recently divorced working-class Mexican-American who becomes a successful entrepreneur. Lopez is set to portray a man who struggles to balance his demanding ex-wife, his 11-year-old son, his overbearing mother who just moved in and his uncle as well as his new role as a philanthropist “giving back” by teaching history once a week at a night school.
STORY: George Lopez’s 10/90 Comedy Lands at FX
Trejo will play Lopez’s uncle Tio, a part-time construction worker who stops by the house to drink George’s beer. He is extremely competitive — in his mind, he can outrun, -jump or -drink anyone, especially George. Tio lives life to the fullest. In many ways, Tio is like a savant or Shakespeare’s fool — despite a convoluted thought process and many quirks, Tio speaks the truth and holds a mirror up to George.
In addition to Sons of Anarchy, where he has played Romeo Padera, Trejo’s credits include episodes of Breaking Bad and the features Machete Kills, Grindhouse and From Dusk Till Dawn. He’s repped by Gloria Hinojosa at AEF. The casting reunites Trejo with Lopez and comes after he guest-starred on a 2005 episode of the actor’s self-titled comedy.
Roseanne creator Matt Williams will serve as showrunner on the multicamera comedy, which, if successful in its first 10 episodes, will earn a 90-episode pickup similar FX’s Anger Management.

Saint George was co-created by Lopez, Williams and David McFadzean, with the trio set to co-write the first episode. The men, along with 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Dete Meserve and Judd Payne will serve as executive producers on the project, which is set to begin production in August. Lionsgate TV is set to produce in association with Wind Dancer Films, Travieso Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment.
