Wilfred‘s Randall Einhorn is bringing Texts From Bennett to FX.
The producer-director, under his overall deal with FX, is developing a comedy based on the best-selling book of the same name by Mac Lethal, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The book centers on the peculiar “white ghetto” sensibility of Lethal’s cousin Bennett’s texts. In the FX odd-couple comedy, rapper Mac Lethal has a problem — his cousin Bennett, a 17-year-old white kid who claims to be a 13 percent black Crip who enjoys more than recreational level drug use and can’t keep a job. When Bennett and his pill-popping mother lose their house, Mac offers to let them stay with him and his WASPy girlfriend, Harper, at his suburban home in Kansas City.
STORY: ‘Wilfred’s’ Randall Einhorn Inks Overall Deal With FX
The sale marks Einhorn’s first under the overall deal he inked with FX to develop, exec produce and direct projects for the cable network. Einhorn is currently considering writers to adapt a pilot script for Texts From Bennett.
The project comes after Einhorn completed directing work on Death Pact, FX’s comedy pilot starring 30 Rock‘s Tracy Morgan. He’s repped by WME, Odenkirk Provissiero and Michael Schenkman. Lethal is repped by WME.
For its part, FX renewed Wilfred for a fourth and final season on FXX.
