Peter Smith, a former managing director at Canadian/U.K. group Cineflix Studios and ex-president of NBCUniversal International, has joined Greek-based broadcaster Antenna Group as new company managing director.
Antenna, owned by the Kyriakou family, is in expansion mode, having just last month acquired a group of Romanian television and radio channels from Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 and announcing plans to extend its footprint to other territories in south-east Europe. Antenna already has television assets in Serbia, Slovenia and Montenegro.
“Pete Smith is joining Antenna as we embark on the next ambitious stage of our growth strategy,” said Antenna CEO Theodore Kyriakou. “His 25-year track record in film and television will be invaluable as we consider steps to extend our international media operations. Pete will manage our expansion and help us in creating or buying new and exciting digital assets.”
Smith left Cineflix last year after the company restructured, closing down its scripted arm and making his position redundant.
“I am looking forward to working with Theo and the team and developing Antenna’s strong presence in television channels, production and digital entertainment,” said Smith in a statement. “The group has exciting plans for the future, building on the strategic platform established in recent years. I will particularly focus on looking for alliances and opportunities in channels, rights and digital assets across Europe.”
