The morning after President Obama delivered an anticipated address to the nation on the Syria crisis, broadcasters are balancing follow-up coverage with planned segments noting the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
A tradition on MSNBC continued on Wednesday, as the network rebroadcast hours of raw Today show coverage from the morning of the attack. The striking archival footage includes anchors reacting in real time as the World Trade Center towers were attacked. Later in the day, MSNBC anchor Craig Melvin will be reporting from Ground Zero.
Other networks included coverage in regularly scheduled programming, including a moment of silence to remember the anniversary. MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, CBS News, ABC News and NBC News included a live stream link to the New York City Ground Zero service.

On NBC News, Willie Geist reported from Ground Zero for the Today show and interviewed One World Trade Center architect David Childs on the design of the building. Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie anchored the network’s coverage. ABC News remembered the anniversary with a moment of silence on Good Morning America at 8:46 a.m. ET, the moment where the first aircraft hit the WTC tower 12 years ago.
CBS News plans to include 9/11 anniversary coverage throughout its regularly scheduled programming during the day. Anchor Charlie Rose, who booked a headline-making interview with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad on Sunday, reported on the Ground Zero memorial service in a segment.
CNN’s coverage included a segment looking at the progress being made on the 9/11 Museum at Ground Zero that aired on morning show New Day. The network is also planning to reair The Flag — a documentary looking at what happened to the iconic America flag that was hung above the wreckage at the WTC site on 9/11 — several times during the p.m. hours on Wednesday.
Fox News included archival footage during a segment on Fox & Friends entitled “9/11 as It Happened.” Senior correspondent Rick Leventhal and anchor/senior correspondent Eric Shawn were also on hand at the memorial proceedings at Ground Zero. Leventhal shared an image of the scene from the 20th floor of One World Trade Center with his followers on Twitter. This evening, a special report anchored by Bret Baier will air at 6 p.m. ET.
On cable news startup Al Jazeera America, special coverage was planned from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET anchored by Del Walters.
