LONDON – The third edition of the Sundance London film and music festival, organized by the Sundance Institute at the O2 Arena here, will take place in the British capital in April.
It will feature an expanded filmmaker development program, organizers said in announcing their return on Monday.
The event will take place April 25-27 at the sprawling AEG-owned event venue that stages everything from rock and pop concerts to comedy tours and the ATP World Tennis finals.
The Sundance Institute and AEG Europe said the event would aim to host the same number of films and events as in previous years, while also seeing the return of the Sundance London short film competition and a shorts workshop.
Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper said: “In keeping with the event’s purpose of celebrating independent artists, the short film competition and workshop allow us to tap into the vibrant artistic community in the U.K. and connect that work with audiences at the festival.”
The competition invites U.K.-based filmmakers to enter original films between three and five minutes in length relating to the theme of “Making a go of it,” meaning “stories about moving forward in life, love or loss and the pursuit of inspiration.”
Submissions can be in any genre or format, including documentary, animation, live-action, comedy and drama.
There also will be a shorts workshop, led by Mike Plante, short film programmer for the Sundance Film Festival, for aspiring filmmakers, mirroring the events the Sundance Institute hosts in cities across the U.S.
