ROAD TRIP: Colton Dixon is traveling around the U.S. as one of the artists on the Winter Jam 214 tour, along with fellow Christian artists the Newsboys, Plumb and Lecrae. The tour started in Raleigh, N.C. on Jan. 3 and has date scheduled through March 30 with a date in Omaha, Neb. This week, as the tour comes to Atlanta and Birmingham, Dixon’s debut album, on sale in the arenas where the live show plays, enjoys another rebound on the Billboard charts.
Two weeks ago, A Messenger soared 47-3 on Top Christian Albums. Last week, the set dropped to No. 11, but this week it leaps back to No. 4 in its 47th week on the chart. On The Billboard 200, A Messenger re-surges 189-81 in its 17th week on this list. Also helping the latest chart action: an expanded version of A Messenger, with two bonus songs, four remixes and new art, was released Jan. 7.
A year ago next week, A Messenger debuted at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums. Dixon is one of only two Idols to finish in seventh place and score Billboard No. 1s. The other is Jennifer Hudson.
With dates in the Western U.S. still to be added, Dixon’s album should continue to bounce around the top 10 of the Christian Albums chart and possibly return to pole position.

HILLS STILL ALIVE: Two months after NBC aired The Sound of Music Live, the soundtrack album is still in the top 25 of the Top Soundtracks chart. After peaking at No. 2 in its debut week, the album is No. 24 in its 15th week on this survey. Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away is still in the top 10 on the Top Country Catalog Albums chart, sliding 8-9.
GOING, GOING, ‘GONE’: By performing “Gone, Gone, Gone” on Fox Televison’s pre-Super Bowl show, Phillip Phillips may be insuring that the song sticks around for a while. In its 39th week on Adult Contemporary, the song moves back up the chart, 6-5. On Rock Digital Songs, where “Gone” has been listed for 56 weeks, the song holds at No. 23. But its predecessor, “Home,” jumps 38-33 in its 88th week on the survey.
BITS AND PIECES: Scotty McCreery’s See You Tonight rebounds 21-20 in its 15th week on Top Country Albums. The title song also moves up this week, lifting 18-17 on Country Airplay… After breaking into the top 10 of the Adult R&B tally last week, Jennifer Hudson’s “I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel)” continue its upward journey, rising 9-7. The single also debuts at No. 6 on Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Songs… Daughtry’s “Waiting for Superman” advances 74-72 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 14-12 on Adult Top 40… Mandisa’s Grammy-winning “Overcomer” rebounds 6-3 on Christian Digital Songs.
