Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American rights to Dan Krauss’ The Kill Team, a documentary about a 21-year-old soldier in Afghanistan, that won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where it premiered.
The distributor will release the film, which also has screened at HotDocs, AFI Docs, and the San Francisco International Film Festival, in 2014.
The Kill Team examines the moral tensions of war through the eyes of Private Adam Winfield, who attempted with the help of his father to alert the military to war crimes his platoon was committing.
The film’s creative team includes executive producers Julie Goldman of Motto Pictures and Deborah Hoffman and producer Linda Davis.
“The Kill Team is an extraordinarily powerful and brave film. It perfectly balances the political with the personal, and is one of the most honest, heartbreaking, and important documentaries we have ever seen,” O-scope’s David Laub and Dan Berger said.
