Mercury News: @RoKhanna maintains huge fundraising lead over @RepMikeHonda

Ro KhannaChallenger Ro Khanna maintains a huge fundraising lead over incumbent Mike Honda in the race to represent the first Asian American majority district in the nation, reports the Mercury News.

The high tech entrepreneur and former Obama administration official  raised $402,000 in the last quarter versus $250,000 for the seven term incumbent.

The challenger has had nearly $2 million dollars in his campaign chest to end the year compared to Honda’s $622,000.

“It’s a little uncommon for a House primary challenger to have such a big cash-on-hand edge over an incumbent as the election year starts,” said Kyle Kondik of the University of Virginia Center for Politics.

Honda, however, still maintains the advantages of name recognition and of incumbency and has locked up endorsements from President Obama, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and labor unions.
