Cee Lo Green has a friend on the outside now. Tuesday night’s elimination episode of The Voice not only revealed which three singers would compete for the championship next week, but also pushed another coach out of the competition.

With no Instant Save to wait for, the first elimination sent James Wolpert packing after singing U2’s “With or Without You” on Monday night. Though accurately predicted by last week’s #VoiceSave — the only upside of the very alienating Twitter experiment — Wolpert’s exit also marked Adam Levine‘s first loss of the season’s top 12, making him the first coach to have three singers in the top five.
Also sent home was Cole Vosbury, the final contestant of Blake Shelton‘s team. While he didn’t take the title, he settled well into his artistic sound when performing Garth Brooks‘ rendition of Billy Joel‘s “Shameless” the night before. Vosbury’s leave does mean that Shelton’s three-season winning streak has officially been broken.
That leaves Christina Aguilera‘s Jacquie Lee and Levine’s Tessanne Chin and Will Champlin in the top three — all of whom love a good power ballad with a very climactic bridge. Finally, a Levine vs. Aguilera singing showdown (remember when they squabbled during every single episode of season two?).
The episode was filled with Voice alumni appearances. Season-three champion Cassadee Pope performed “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart” and season-four winner Danielle Bradbery sang “Never Like This,” each from their debut albums. (Coincidentally, the night that Shelton’s winning singers returned to perform on the show was when he was eliminated from the current season as a coach).

Season four’s Michelle Chamuel of Team Usher took the stage to sing “Go Down Singing” and the Swon brothers of Team Blake also played their new single, “Later On.” Season-two breakouts Jamar Rogers and Chris Mann were in attendance as well.
What did you think of Tuesday’s elimination? Was the right singer sent home, or do you wish the Twitter #VoiceSave was available this week? Who will take the title: Lee, Chin or Champlin? Levine or Aguilera? Sound off in the comments below.
