Germany‘s Tele-Munchen Group (TMG) and Modern Times Group (MTG) in Scandinavia are the first two European majors to get into The Black Box, the medical procedural starring Sherlock Holmes actress Kelly Reilly and Oscar winner Vanessa Redgrave, which will go out on ABC in the U.S..
TMG has taken rights across German-speaking Europe for the show, the first small-screen venture from feature production company Bold Films (Legion, Only God Forgives), with MTG taking the show for the entire Scandinavian market. Both TMG and MTG were Bold Films’ first international partners on the project.
Sierra/Engine Television has picked up international sales rights for the rest of the world on the proejct will launch the series to buyers at international TV confab MIPCOM in Cannes next week.

Reilly stars as Dr. Elizabeth Black, a brilliant neurologist with her own serious mental problems, problems she confesses only to her psychiatrist, Dr. Hartramph (Redgrave). Terry Kinney (Oz) also stars. Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn) will direct the 13-episode first season, with production set to begin in New York this month.
Amy Holden Jones (Mystic Pizza, Indecent Proposal) wrote the series and is executive producing together with Anne Thomopoulos (Rome), Bryan Singer (X-Men), Oly Obst (The Invention of Lying) and Ilene Chaiken (The L Word), who will also serve as showrunner.
WME, which represents Bold Films, Jones, Chaiken and Singer, packaged the project.
