Racist shenanigans at last week’s Comic.con in New York are still drawing outrage.
It seems Mike Babchik who has a show on cable access in the Bronx sneaked into Comic.com in New York using credentials from Sirius XM radio to get in.
According to Boing Boing, he proceeded to walk around with a camera asking stupid, sexist and racially offensive questions.
Diana Pho (pictured) says she was in character, as folks at Comic.con are apt to do, carrying an umbrella in what she describes as an Asian Steam punk outfit straight from the Death from the Sandman comics.
She says a camera crew covering the event for the Man Banter with Mike Babchik show began getting really obnoxious with her. Here’s how she says the conversation went down.
So, if I were walking in the rain, could I pay you to walk next to me with your umbrella? asked the crew.
Pay me? asks Pho.
If I paid you? responded the crew
Then, buy your own umbrella, said a defiant Pho.
No, I want to buy an umbrella with an Asian girl, the crew said.
Then no.
Are you a geisha? No.
Can I be a geisha?
No, you can’t.
Why not?
Because you lack certain things, like style, tact, grace—
Ah, but do I smell?
Well, I dunno, I’ve only stood next to you for about 20 seconds, so I can’t tell if you do or not. But however—
Well in my experience, girls who stand next to me longer than 20 seconds get a cream pie, said the crew.A petition going around is calling on Sirius XM to fire Babchik. But the petition may be misdirected.
I checked Sirius XM’s web page and a search for Babchik on the site comes up empty.
I also checked Babchik’s Facebook page and there’s no mention of Sirius.
Other bloggers say Babchik was using old credentials to get into Comic.com and is no longer part of Sirius (Update: Both the Daily Dot & 18 Million Rising have confirmed Babchik is a producer for Sirius XM Radio’s Mad Dog. Banter’s Twitter Account before being made private described himself as “On-Air bad guy for Evan & Phillips on Mad Dog Radio Sirius XM 86 and host of Man Banter on Bronx Net & MNN.)
Meanwhile, Pho has been getting numerous apologies for the folks connected to the Man Banter with Mike Babchik.
