When the still-untitled sequel to Man of Steel hits screens in 2015, movie audiences are likely to finally get an answer to the often asked question: Who would win in a fight: Superman or Batman? The real answer, of course, is “the fans,” but Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer is offering some hints on his personal feelings on the subject.
“Most comic-book purists would say Batman because he’s the ultimate strategist, even though it makes no sense whatsoever,” Goyer told the Associated Press. After all, he explained, “If Superman just flicked his finger, Batman would be done for.” Well, unless he had a piece of kryptonite on him — or a telegenic archer with a kryptonite arrow somewhere close by.

Goyer, apparently remembering that he probably doesn’t want to spoil the outcome of a movie that isn’t released until 2015, added, “I don’t know, you’ll have to watch the film in a year and a half or whatnot, when it comes out, to see what happens.” Not that that means he doesn’t already know how the story will end; he admitted that “we’re a bit further along [in the Man of Steel 2 process] that I think people realize” during the same interview.
He also addressed the issue of fan expectations for the movie, saying, “If you try to think about what the fans like, or what the audience would like, then you stop being creative. It’s sort of like, where does it end?” Those making the movie are “conscious of the fan point of view,” he said, but “you have to write the story you want to write and hope that people want to see it.” The first onscreen meeting of a live-action Superman with a live-action Batman?
