Catching the Academy Awards if you happen to be outside the U.S. on Oscar night can be a tricky proposition. ABC will be kicking off its extensive Oscar coverage Sunday night at 7 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. PT and will be offering, for the first time, a live stream for viewers to watch the Oscars online and via mobile devices.
But for international Oscar fans, finding local live coverage of the 86th Academy Awards means maneuvering through a patchwork of satellite and cable broadcasters, as well as online offerings.

America’s neighbors to the north have it easiest, with national network CTV providing blanket coverage, starting with an Oscars red carpet special at 6 p.m. ET and going live with the ceremony at 8.30 p.m. ET, 5.30 p.m. PT. The channel will also stream live on CTV.ca and on its CTV Go! App.
Elsewhere, time zone differences mean Oscar fans will be staying up late or celebrating their awards parties over breakfast. In the U.K., pay-TV channels Sky Living and Sky Movies Oscars will carry the show, starting with red carpet coverage at 11.30 p.m. local time, though the main event won’t kick off until 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning. Brit-based fans willing to put in the overnighter can check out the invite-only Oscar party hosted by private members club Soho House in central London, which begins with cocktails at 10:30 p.m. Sunday night and is offered up for any Academy members from the West Coast who have opted not to adjust to local time zones.
Across Europe, Oscar fans in Germany and Italy can watch on free-to-air TV, with Germany’s Pro7 starting its live coverage of the Oscar ceremony at 1 a.m. local time, as Mediaset’s Channel 5 in Italy also kicks off its Oscar broadcast. In France, where film fans will still be recovering from the Cesar Awards on Friday night (the local version of the Oscars), pay-TV network CanalPlus will air a marathon six hours of Oscar coverage starting just after midnight on Sunday. But the ceremony will be encrypted for subscribers only. It’s a similar story in Spain, where CanalPlus will also air the Academy Awards live for its local subscribers, from just after midnight to early in the a.m. Monday morning. The best picture winner is expected to be announced just before sunrise in Western Europe on Monday.

Further east, viewers will have to set their alarm clocks far too early in order to catch the show.
In Russia, leading broadcaster Channel One kicks off its Oscar coverage at 4 a.m. Moscow time on Monday, while in India the Oscars go out live from 6 a.m. on 21st Century Fox-owned pay-TV network Star Movies. Star will repeat the telecast on Monday night from 8 p.m. local time.
Across much of East Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Brunei, viewers can catch the show on FOX Movies Premium, which will start with red carpet coverage at 8.30 a.m. local time before a 9.30 a.m. start for the ceremony. As with many international broadcasters, FOX will repeat the show in primetime at 8 p.m. locally on Monday night.
In Hong Kong, Oscar fans wanting to get into the party mood can check out the Mandarin Oriental’s M Bar in central Hong Kong, which is hosting a “Live from the Oscars” event, featuring a “free-flowing champagne brunch” and film-themed cocktails from famed mixologist Ryan Magarian, starting from 9.30 a.m. and costing around $85 per person.
But over on the mainland, viewers will have to go online to get their awards fix. National network CCTV won’t be carrying the Oscars live, though streaming services Sohu and Aiqiyi will, starting from 6 a.m. local time Monday morning. M1905 Dianyingwang will stream the awards from 8 a.m., and CCTV6 will broadcast highlights of the ceremony at 10:41 p.m. on March 3.
And if you happen to be in Oz — like the cast of Modern Family right now — you can have an Oscar’s lunch while watching live on broadcast network channel Nine, airing daytime Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. local time.
