SACRAMENTO-

The City of Sacramento says new “smart” meters have been installed at City Hall and around Cesar Chavez Park as of Friday, and more will be popping up around downtown, midtown and Old Sacramento soon.

New meters will allow drivers to pay by coin, card, pay-by-cell or through a mobile app. Mobile payment will include a convenience fee.

The meters are also said to be able to send an alert if they are broken down. The city says they normally only hear if an older meter is broken after a citation is issued.

Rates may also change with the new meters, but the city says it hasn’t been officially decided.
