Get your tissues ready, the first official trailer for 20th Century Fox’s adaptation of John Green‘s best-selling novel The Fault in Our Stars has debuted.
Fault in Our Stars centers on a teenage girl, Hazel (Shailene Woodley), stricken with terminal cancer who unwillingly falls for a boy, Augustus (Ansel Elgort), in her support group. The two form a bond as they deal with their illnesses.

The dramatic and heartbreaking trailer, a snippet of which debuted on Wednesday’s Today, opens like a quintessential Hollywood romantic comedy, with glimpses of Hazel and Augustus embarking on a fledgling romance. But, as Hazel explains in voiceover, the reality is much less glossed over than that.
“Gus, I’m a grenade,” Hazel, a Stage 4 cancer patient, tells Augustus at one point. “One day I’m going to blow up and I’m going to obliterate everything in my wake and I don’t want to hurt you.”
During filming last year, Green took fans behind the scenes of the movie in a slew of videos giving a candid look at life on a movie set, and revealing more about himself and the cast.

Josh Boone (Stuck in Love) directed Fault in Our Stars from a screenplay by The Spectacular Now scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. The film also stars Nat Wolff, Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Willem Dafoe and Mike Birbiglia.
Fault in Our Stars hits theaters June 6.
