A Virginia lawyer is soliciting potential plaintiffs to sue Harvard for what he claims is an unfair and unconstitutional admissions policy limiting the number of Asian-Americans who are accepted — a policy that Harvard insists does not exist.

“We’re trying to gather together a large body of ?individuals who have recently applied to the school who may be willing to file a lawsuit challenging those practices,” said Edward Blum, an attorney who heads a nonprofit called the Project on Fair Representation and set up a website called “Harvard Not Fair,” which asks aggrieved applicants to step forward. He also is preparing suits against the University of North Carolina and the University of Wisconsin.

Blum said he already has enlisted some rejected Asian-American applicants and a lawsuit could come “in weeks, not months.” He claims the school has a set quota limiting the number of Asian-American students it accepts each year, which he claims is an unconstitutional practice.

Harvard university spokesman Jeff Neal said, “There are no quotas or limits of any kind at any point in the admissions process. All students are considered in the same pool for all places in the incoming class. The university’s admissions processes remain fully compliant with all legal requirements.”
