MADRID – Spain’s main producers lobby has a new president. Veteran Spanish TV executive Ramon Colom will take the helm at Spain’s Co-Federation of Audiovisual Producers (FAPAE), the group that clusters the country’s various film and television producers announced Thursday.
Colom replaces interim president Joxe Portela, who took over when longtime president Pedro Perez resigned in July. The new president was elected by FAPAE’s executive board for a four-year term.

“The most urgent thing now is to define how and when the payments for aid corresponding to the years of 2011 and 2012 will be made so that we can then focus on a new finance model,” the new leader of Spain’s producers said.
According to FAPAE, Colom will continue working to establish economic growth and stability in the fragile sector, suffering from a backlog of unpaid public subsidies and a dysfunctional financing model based on a trickle of TV rights and theatrical releases.
Colom’s 40-year career in television includes stints at the top of pubcaster Television Espanola and training and project development for Barcelona-based Mediapark, where he designed and created thematic channels for Spain’s burgeoning digital platform landscape.
