MODESTO —
The Modesto City Council, Tuesday night, voted 7-0 in favor of extending the time limit for free parking downtown from one to two hours.
The move was in response to business owners and patrons who complained that one-hour parking, weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., wasn’t enough time for many customers.
People enjoying the downtown area Tuesday night were happy to hear the news.
“I feel like if the time was extended to two hours, people would have more time to spend more time and more money downtown, which is what Modesto needs to succeed,” said Modesto native, Brandon Rylaarsdam.
The limit will still be one hour, where posted, until the signs are changed in the coming weeks. The fee for a parking ticket in downtown Modesto is $33.
