One of the negative results of the compatibilit is to write a C program and claim that he/she has written a C++ program, meaning an object oriented program.

Many subsequent languages are of the C family, meaning that they use the same basic syntax as C. The reason given is usually because the C syntax was familiar to so many programmers. Not sure why people cannot seem to admit that the C syntax is elegant. "Not invented here" I guess.
