ABC Family‘s tennis drama Unstrung has found its male lead.
The Cut alum Alex Roe will topline the drama set in the world of professional tennis, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
STORY: ABC Family’s Tennis Drama Pilot Fills Two Main Roles
Unstrung explores the sexy, cutthroat and emotional stakes of the professional world tour of tennis as brother and sister Luke and Ellie Holt compete to move up the ranks. The Holts may seem to have it all in a world where success is not only determined by prowess on the court, but by looks, charm and the ability to hide your faults under pressure from fans, critics, opponents and even your closest allies. But a major family secret threatens to turn their lives, and their hard-earned family “brand,” upside down.
Roe will play Luke Holt, who is described as fit and athletic with the face of a heartthrob. He’s a once-in-a-generation tennis player nicknamed “The Machine.” Luke is ranked fifth in the world and he’s only getting better. When he discovers that his well-meaning but controlling father and coach, Phil, has kept a potentially life-altering secret from him, Luke’s world is upended.
STORY: ABC Family Orders Three Drama Pilots
Roe’s credits include British series The Jury II, Hollyoaks, Doctors, Holby City and The Fugitives. He’s repped by WME, Luber Roklin and Associated International Management in the U.K. Unstrung marks his first U.S. series.
He joins a cast that includes Chanel Celaya and Sofia Mattsson in the hourlong drama from Life Unexpected EP Emily Whitesell. Celaya co-stars as Ellie, Luke’s younger sister; Mattsson will play Ninotchka, a diva ranked third in the world.
