The news that Joel McHale is going to host the White House Correspondents’ centennial dinner on May 3 spread like wildfire on social media.
The White House Correspondents’ Association announced on Friday morning that McHale will be the entertainer for the annual event in Washington, D.C., which is traditionally attended by the president and first lady, as well as various senior officials and members of the press corps.

McHale will join an impressive list of comedians, including Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Jay Leno, who have hosted the annual D.C. event, known in Washington circles as the “Nerd Prom.” In recent years, the dinner has become a major televised event, complete with A-list celebrities, live red carpet coverage and spoof videos produced by Steven Spielberg and others.
