Art, meet Shia LaBeouf.
The marketing team behind the actor’s 2013 Sundance Film Festival premiere The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman has whipped up two posters that favor splashes of paint over the usual celebrity mugshots.
Charlie Countryman, retitled for its November release, stars the Transformers actor as the titular character who finds himself in Bucharest after his late mother appears to him in a vision. There, he meets and romances Gabi (Evan Rachel Wood), a cellist with ties to a local gangster. Charlie quickly finds himself sucked into the Romanian underworld, full of psychedelia and violence.
The film marks the debut of commercials director Fredrik Bond. Reviewing from Sundance, The Hollywood Reporter called the film “a promising feature debut with this fanciful crime-drama romance that gratifyingly eschews strict genre classification.”
In 2012, LaBeouf lauded Voltage Pictures for giving Bond the freedom to make Charlie Countryman. “These dudes are a miracle,” he told THR. “They give you the money, and they trust you — [unlike the studios, which] give you the money, then get on a plane and come to the set and stick a finger up your ass and chase you around for five months.”
Charlie Countryman also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Rupert Grint and Vincent D’Onofrio. It arrives in theaters and On Demand on Nov. 15.
