CopLightsSANTA CLARA-

A worker was killed Monday morning in an apparent accident at the under-construction Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, the San Francisco 49ers confirmed.

The man had driven materials to the site when, according to reports from Bay Area media, he was crushed by a load of rebar.

He was later identified as 60-year-old Edward Lake, of Vacaville.

“The 49ers organization learned this morning that an accident occurred involving a driver as he delivered materials to the stadium. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers affected by this tragedy,” the 49ers said in a written statement.

Workers were sent home for the day.

This is the second death at the Levi’s Stadium construction site. Donald White, 63, died in an accident in June. White’s family have released the following statement on Lake’s death.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the individual  involved in today’s incident at the construction site for the new 49ers Stadium. We truly understand and sympathize with the loss you are dealing with, as we are still grieving over the loss our husband and father, Donald, at that same construction site. Our attorneys, Roger Dreyer and Chris Wood, are investigating the safety policies and procedures that were in place at that construction site on June 11th when we lost our husband and father.  We hope through this process we will be able to find peace.”

The stadium will be the new home to the 49ers at the start of the 2014 season, as well as the site of Super Bowl L.
