ROCKLIN-

Rocklin Police say there have been a few mountain lion sightings reported since late February.

The first sighting was on Feb. 21 along Morgan Court. The cat was gone by the time police arrived. Police say the homeowner gave them a photo of what he saw, leading officers to consider the man’s sighting credible.

Another sighting was reported early Friday afternoon near Parker Whitney School. Police say no physical evidence of a cat was ever found, but the school was briefly put on lockdown.

A third sighting was reported Sunday evening along Humbolt Drive. Again, no mountain lion was found by police but a domesticated cat was reportedly killed by one.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife says less than three percent of mountain lion sightings turn out to be a threat to public safety.
