Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is in talks to direct Warner Bros.‘ live-action film based on The Jungle Book, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Exclusive: ‘Jungle Book’ Live-Action Reboot in the Works at Disney
The Mexican director, whose previous projects include 21 Grams, Babel and Biutiful, recently wrapped production on Birdman, which will star Emma Stone and Michael Keaton. He is repped by CAA.
Warner Bros.’ project is one of two films based on The Jungle Book that are in development. Disney also is working on a live-action version, with Jon Favreau in talks to direct; Justin Marks is writing the script.
It’s likely that, if both directors sign on, the projects will have very different styles. Inarritu is known for darker, dramatic projects, while Favreau’s films (including Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens) have been lighter with more action scenes.
