SACRAMENTO-
Sac State Junior Guard Dylan Garrity didn’t expect his last second shot against Weber State would result in much. Instead, with one epic heave, he became an internet sensation, and a Hornets sports legend.
“I just let it go, and said a prayer … and it went in,” Garrity said.
With just .07 seconds left, Garrity launched a 75-foot shot, that hit nothing but net, sending the crowed into a frenzy and propelling the Hornets to an upset victory over the first place Weber State Wildcats.
Sac State seemed to have a win slip through its hands when Davion Berry nailed a three pointer to tie the game with less than a second to play, but Garrity made sure that wouldn’t happen.
The shot was made all that much better with the classic call by Hornets play-by-play announcer Steve McElroy, screaming “oh my god, oh my god”, as the ball went through the net.
“It was the greatest play I’ve seen in my 17-years as a veteran broadcaster…from the play-by-play stand point it wasn’t that great of a call because I was still talking about the previous play (Berry’s shot to tie the game) but from an energy stand point, it was a good call,” McElroy said.
“I think I could only hit that shot one out of a hundred times,” said Garrity.
Fortunately, he only needed one shot, and the rest is history.
