Neil Bagg, an agent at Don Buchwald & Associates for 16 years, died Monday at his home in Los Angeles of complications from Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was 54.
A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Bagg worked at William Morris, Contemporary Artists, The Agency and Susan Smith & Associates before joining Don Buchwald & Associates, where he stayed until he left on medical leave in the summer 2012.
Colleagues described him as “a devoted father with a sensitive soul and a wicked sense of humor; a true raconteur and mensch. Neil had a passion for and an encyclopedic knowledge of every facet of this business, and he was well-known and extremely well-liked throughout the entertainment community.”
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Bagg grew up with a love for the arts. At age 17, he hosted a popular talk show called PULSE, then moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA, where he received his BA and then his MFA.
Bagg was cast in the play Viva Vittorio at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. He then banded together with a small group of fellow actors who would pose as managers and submit one another on projects. He was so successful at finding work for his friends that he applied for and landed a job in the William Morris training program.
Survivors include his wife Jana, children Olivia and August, mother Sybill and brothers Gerald and Jeffrey.
Bagg was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease in 2012.
Donations can be made to the Neil Bagg Children’s Memorial Fund or to the ALS Association. A memorial service is being planned. For more information, please contact Hannah Roth at Don Buchwald & Associates.
