Scandal star Tony Goldwyn is headed to Lifetime.
The actor, who stars as President Fitzgerald Grant on ABC’s red-hot Washington drama, has been tapped to play Warren Jeffs in Lifetime’s original movie Outlaw Prophet, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
From Sony Pictures Television, Outlaw centers on the true story of Jeffs, the leader of a Fundamentalist Mormon polygamist sect who spent more than a year on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List. He eluded authorities and was ultimately caught by a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper.

The movie is based on Stephen Singular‘s New York Times best-selling book When Men Become Gods and chronicles Jeffs’ rise to power after the death of his father, Rulon Jeffs.
Steve Kornacki (Boardwalk Empire) and his wife/writing partner Alyson Evans penned the script for the movie, which will be directed by Gabriel Range (Death of a President). Academy Awards executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Bonnie & Clyde, Chicago) will executive produce the movie alongside Judith Verno (Lizzie Borden Took an Ax, Anna Nicole). The Jeffs movie was first put in development in August 2012.
Shoot and premiere dates as well as filming location for Outlaw have yet to be determined.

For Goldwyn, Outlaw comes as the actor is in the midst of wrapping production on Scandal‘s third season. The series, from exec producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, has not officially been renewed for a fourth season, though it’s a slam dunk to return.
Goldwyn has been keeping busy outside of Scandal. He co-created, executive produces and directs the first two episodes of WE tv’s first scripted drama, The Divide, which will premiere in the summer. Additionally, Goldwyn will play Shailene Woodley‘s father in Summit’s buzzy feature adaptation of Divergent, which opens March 21.
Goldwyn is repped by CAA, Untitled and Schreck Rose.
