Adam Wingard‘s The Guest, one of the hot Sundance titles amongst the geek crowd, has found a distribution deal with Picturehouse.
The company, run by Bob Berney, has picked up U.S. rights to the movie and is planning a fall release.
Wingard is one of the horror world’s rising stars, especially after his last movie, You’re Next. Guest, however, isn’t horror, but action and harkens back to an early 1980s vibe.
According to Picturehouse, “the movie tells the story of a young soldier who arrives on the doorstep of the Peterson family, claiming to be a good friend of their beloved son who died in action. The Petersons welcome David into their home and into their lives, but when people start mysteriously dying in town, mayhem ensues as their teenage daughter Anna starts wondering if David is responsible.”
The lead is played by Dan Stevens, one of the stars of Downton Abbey. Also in the movie are Maika Monroe, Brendan Meyer, Sheila Kelley, Leland Orser and Lance Reddick.
Wingard’s frequent collaborator Simon Barrett wrote the script. Snoot Entertainment’s Keith Calder and Jessica Calder produced.
The movie is screening this weekend at SXSW.
