The NTSB is at the accident scene, they arrived around 10 a.m. and will be assisting in the investigation.

CHP officers are looking into whether there was something that happened in front of the FedEx truck to cause it to cross the median, or whether there was some sort of mechanical problem. At this time, there is no obvious cause.

The investigation into this accident could take six to nine months.

Many of those who died in the crash were badly burned; CHP officers say they are gathering medical information on the victims in order to help positively identify them.

Based on witness accounts, CHP officers say flames came from the front of the bus almost immediately after the crash. They say the majority of those who died were found in the front of the bus or on the floor near the front of the bus.
