EL DORADO COUNTY-

El Dorado County supervisor Ron Briggs says he’s concerned that if Sacramento County gets its way, there could be nearly 300 more planes flying above homes in El Dorado and Folsom.

“We have a very vibrant community and the last thing we want to do is go at war with our neighbors in Sacramento County but they are persisting in using us as a dumping ground for their air noise so they can create an industrial hub in their county,” Briggs said.

According to a recent Draft Environmental Impact Report there would be “no significant aircraft noise impacts to noise-sensitive areas (residential, school, hospitals).”

Briggs says his side disagrees with their conclusions and will conduct their own noise study.

“I think they’re incorrect, I think you can have any report come out and say what you want it to say,” said Briggs.

We asked the people who live right next to Mather Field if the current plane noise bothered them.

“We see planes coming and going and it’s actually not too loud really doesn’t phase us at all…and it’s right in my backyard,” said Cathy Newhouse.

As for people who feel they would be affected by the planes and want to leave their public comment, the deadline to do so is early May.
