CANNES — Nelvana’s Franklin and Friends is headed to China to air on national broadcaster CCTV.
The deal was negotiated by Ciwen Media Group, the Chinese agent for Nelvana Enterprises, and sees the Canadian animated kids series licensed to the CCTV Kids Channel.
The broadcast agreement will allow the Canada-Singapore co-production to be viewed in about 400 million Chinese households.
Ciwen Media Group has the exclusive distribution and merchandising rights to Franklin and Friends and other Nelvana properties.
In other dealmaking Monday at MIPCOM, Distribution360 said it inked a first-look deal with Toronto-based producer Skywriter Media & Entertainment Group to handle its kids and family programming.
Skywriter, best known for its Atomic Betty and The Raccoons series, has about 250 half-hours of kids programming in is library.
And Peace Point Rights sold the Keasha Rigsby-hosted bridal fashion reality series Keasha’s Perfect Dress and Keasha’s Fashion Tips to RTL Netherlands, while Disney Channel picked up Guru Studio’s preschool series Justin Time for channels in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The four-year deal includes pay TV rights for the first two seasons of Justin Time, which has already aired on Disney Channels in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Italy.
Also in Cannes, Bristow Global Media picked up the Canadian format rights to the Channel Four Hidden Talent factual series as part of a deal brokered by Group M Entertainment, which will co-produce for American Express.
The branded content Hidden Talent doc series was created by American Express and indie producer Silver River to reveal the hidden abilities of ordinary people through a series of tasks.
