Coverage of Monday’s tragic shooting at the Washington, D.C., Navy Yard has dominated the cable news networks since the events began unfolding Monday morning. On the broadcast side, here’s how CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox are covering the incident, which has left at least 13 people dead.
The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley will expand to one hour Monday night (from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. ET) to cover the shooting. Pelley will anchor the broadcast from New York, with contributions from CBS News senior correspondent John Miller and correspondents Bob Orr, Chip Reid, Nancy Cordes and Jeff Pegues.

ABC has not announced any plans to expand its coverage of World News with Diane Sawyer. At this point, the network is not planning to send any of its NY-based anchors to D.C., but it plans to use Washington-based staffers like Martha Raddatz, Lisa Stark, Jim Avila and Pierre Thomas.
World News, Nightline and Good Morning America plan to cover the incident extensively, according to an ABC spokesperson.
The NBC Nightly News will be a regular 30-minute broadcast anchored by Brian Williams from New York. The show will have the latest on the shooting and investigation from NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski, Pete Williams and Tom Costello.
Those D.C.-based NBC News reporters, as well as Kasie Hunt and Luke Russert will continue contributing to MSNBC‘s coverage along with the cable news network’s Craig Melvin, on the ground in D.C.

MSNBC plans to devote a significant amount of coverage to the shootings during its primetime block. The Rachel Maddow Show will spend the full 9 to 10 p.m. ET hour on the incident. Earlier, All In with Chris Hayes will include guests such as D.C. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, NBC/MSNBC Law Enforcement Analyst Jim Cavanaugh and D.C. sniper eyewitness Don Andres.
NBC’s Today also is sending Natalie Morales to D.C. for Tuesday morning’s coverage. Matt Lauer was in Colorado on Monday morning to cover the massive flood damage.
Fox News Channel‘s coverage will be anchored by Bill Hemmer and Martha MacCallum from New York.
CNN‘s Anderson Cooper, meanwhile, will anchor his primetime show from the D.C. Navy Yard.
And in what has become unfortunately familiar for fast-moving breaking stories in the Twitter age, multiple news organizations had to retract erroneous reports. CBS News and NBC News both incorrectly Tweeted that the suspect had been identified as Rollie Chance before correcting that information and deleting those Tweets around 1 p.m. ET. NBC’s Pete Williams explained that police found Chance’s ID card at the scene. The shooter was later identified as Aaron Alexis, 34, who worked for a military contractor in Fort Worth, Texas. He was shot and killed by police.
Adding to the confusion on the ground in Washington on Monday, a man threw lit firecrackers over the fence at the White House North Lawn – prompting at least one more error-filled report when Fox News’ Bret Baier told viewers that “someone pulled a weapon of some type and gunmen have engaged this person.”
The firecracker suspect was tackled and arrested, according to the Associated Press. No weapons were discharged.
