Twelve blockbusters — James Wan‘s The Conjuring, Pierre Coffin‘s Despicable Me 2, Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium, Justin Lin‘s Fast and Furious 6, Todd Phillips‘ The Hangover 3, Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3, Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel, Dan Scanlon‘s Monsters University, Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim, J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek: Into Darkness, James Mangold‘s The Wolverine and Marc Forster‘s World War Z — have been nominated for this year’s Hollywood Movie Award at the 17th annual Hollywood Film Awards, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The fan favorite will be determined via online voting at Entertainment Tonight‘s website, ETonline.com, and will be revealed at the Hollywood Film Awards gala ceremony on Oct. 21 at the Beverly Hilton.
The honorees in every other category at the Hollywood Film Awards are determined by founder and executive director Carlos de Abreu and an advisory committee.
Other 2013 honorees who have already been announced include 12 Years a Slave for director Steve McQueen and supporting actress Lupita Nyong’o; 42 supporting actor Harrison Ford; August: Osage County for ensemble and supporting actress Julia Roberts; Before Midnight for lead actress/co-screenwriter Julie Delpy, lead actor/co-screenwriter Ethan Hawke and co-screenwriter/director Richard Linklater; Behind the Candelabra producer Jerry Weintraub; The Book Thief lead actress Sophie Nelisse; Captain Phillips producer Michael De Luca; Dallas Buyers Club for lead actor Matthew McConaughey and supporting actor Jared Leto; Gravity lead actress Sandra Bullock; Fruitvale Station lead actor Michael B. Jordan; Lee Daniels’ The Butler for director Lee Daniels and supporting actor David Oyelowo; Monsters University for director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae; Pacific Rim visual effects supervisor John Knoll; and Prisoners supporting actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
Over the past 10 years, Hollywood Film Awards honorees went on to garner a total of 96 Oscar nominations and 34 Oscars. (Full disclosure: Dick Clark Productions, which shares the same parent company as THR, has an undisclosed investment in the Hollywood Film Awards.)
