Produced by Mantarraya Producciones, the shingle of Mexican auteur Carlos Reygadas, Heli was the third feature of Escalante’s to have screened at Cannes.
Another Cannes winner, La Jaula de Oro (The Golden Cage), was picked as Mexico’s foreign picture entry for Spain’s Goya Awards.
A drama about the hardships of Central American migrants, The Golden Cage won the Talent Prize in the Un Certain Regard section. The Animal de Luz Films production marks the directorial debut of Spanish-born writer-director Diego Quemada-Diez.
